Hello! I’m Briana Mukodiri Uchendu, a first-generation Nigerian American and professional children’s book illustrator based in Texas. Since beginning my career in 2021, I’ve illustrated more than seven published books and have been honored with recognition, including the Society of Illustrators Original Art Silver Medal and the Coretta Scott King–John Steptoe Award for New Talent.
I’ve always introduced myself as an illustrator first because art has shaped so much of who I am. But at heart, I’m simply a lover—and art is how I express my devotion. I love my family, the stories people tell, and the little wonders that surround us every day. Whether depicting joyful celebrations of life and culture, imaginative adventures filled with magic and mystery, or quiet moments of grief and reflection, my goal is always to breathe life into a story and create a captivating, visceral experience for readers of all ages.
